Chapter 2 - Social responsibilities

Good Health and Well-Being

The proactive policy of Genève Aéroport in promoting the health, wellbeing and safety of employees has been rewarded, since 2013, with the Friendly Work Space label, awarded by Promotion Santé Suisse. Many training classes and awareness-raising campaigns are carried out to promote employees’ wellbeing, reduce the number of accidents and lower the staff absence rate.

Actions to reduce employee absence rate

In 2019, the absence rate increased by 0.6% compared to 2018, amounting to 7.8%. Occupational accidents accounted for 35 cases, compared to 215 for non-occupational accidents, and represent about 20% of the absence rate. The absence frequency rate, calculated per 1,000 full-time employees, is lower than the industry average for occupational accidents, and higher for non-occupational accidents.

While Genève Aéroport is provided with an established process for monitoring long-term absences, substantial work began in the second half of 2018 to identify, better monitor and prevent short-term absences. Therefore, working groups consisting of management, human resources and the occupational physician were set up for departments experiencing an absence rate of 8% or more. These working groups have worked to identify actions which could further improve certain working conditions with a potential impact on the absence rate. The targets set for 2020 will allow these efforts to be continued through collaboration between Human Resources, the Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the Personnel Advisory Committee.

Occupational medicine

In 2019, the occupational physician at Genève Aéroport carried out 319 consultations, 149 of which were dedicated to managing absences, to workplace adjustments and to the monitoring over time of people returning to work. Alongside the consultations, the occupational physician also collaborated with human resources on cross-departmental projects, such as the consolidation of the prevention process for pregnant and breastfeeding women. The vaccination campaign against seasonal flu has also been renewed annually.

Training for employee’s health and wellbeing

As part of its Safety Academy, Genève Aéroport implements internal training classes. The goal is to train employees to adopt good practices in maintaining wellbeing and quality of life at the workplace. In 2019, 234 training sessions were delivered, including yoga and pilates classes, in addition to activities in connection with the « I Feel Good » campaign. A workshop was organised on the topic of hyper-connectivity, with the objective of better managing the use of social networks and acquiring tips to better control the flow of information in e-mails.

« I Feel Good » Campaign

The 2019 « I Feel Good » campaign was aimed at reducing the frequency of non-occupational accidents. The campaign was launched in the airport check-in hall on 5 and 6 March 2019. A series of workshops and a lecture by the Head of Sports medicine at the Rehabilitation Clinic (Clinique romande de réadaptation, CRR) was attended by more than 1,000 people.

Collaborations and external sharing of experience

In October 2019, Genève Aéroport took part in the annual occupational health and safety officers’ meeting organised by the SUVA. This meeting made it possible, for the two institutions, to renew their joint commitment to promoting the wellbeing of teams and combating occupational and non-occupational accidents.

Throughout the year, Genève Aéroport presented its occupational health and safety management system as well as that of fire protection, whether at the SST’s French-speaking Switzerland Congress, the cantonal day dedicated to corporate health, the annual day of the Federal Office of Sport (OFSPO), or again, at the meetings of CFST safety engineers of French-speaking Switzerland and during the continuing training of CSFT security officers.
